It features vocals from Nickelback frontman, and Lavigne's ex-husband, Chad Kroeger and was written by Lavigne and Kroeger along with David Hodges. The song was produced by Kroeger.

"Let Me Go" was the first official single off Lavigne's self-titled fifth studio album after the release of two promotional singles "Here's to Never Growing Up" and "Rock N Roll". Lavigne described it as a piano ballad and one of her favorite songs off Avril Lavigne.
