“killer” was first previewed on FKA twigs' TikTok on June 4th, 2022, where she’s seen kissing Elite actor Arón Piper, presumably for the music video.
The song follows twigs making her way through the love world and reflecting upon her previous relationships, ones of infatuation where she would lie to herself to make it work.
2013’s “Papi Pacify” similarly explores toxic relationships, and the recurring theme of denial in love is one seen throughout her 2019 album, "MAGDALENE".
“It’s dangerous to be a woman in love”—when at its worst the effects of heart break can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself, in my song ‘Killer’ I explore this concept. The navigation, the hunt and the kill. The death of promises, dreams and the future that was once promised. But like the wildest plucked roses, I find myself more beautiful delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges and achingly thirsting to be tended to again." - via Press Release
FKA twigs performed “killer” live for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (Home) on June 10, 2022.
