Metallica — Nothing Else Matters

Nothing Else Matters is 8th track off Metallica's famous "Metallica" album (referred often to as "the Black Album" due to the cover art). The album has sold over 25 million copies world wide. It was Metallica's first, more popular sounding album. The track was composed and written by James Hetfield to his girlfriend whom he missed during long touring sessions. The famous introduction was born quite by accident, during a telephone conversation with his girlfriend: James held the receiver with one hand, and fingered the open strings on the guitar with the other. It is noteworthy that at first Hatfield did not want to show the song to his bandmates, because he considered it too personal. In addition, stylistically, the composition was sharply out of all that Metallica had done before. However, the rest of the band liked the composition and they were able to convince the vocalist. The track became a massive hit instantly after the album was published. Producer for this song is Bob Rock, and Lars Ulrich is a co-writer. It's also the only Metallica song that Hetfield plays its guitar solo instead of Kirk Hammett.
