Annie Lennox — Why

"Why" is the first solo single by Annie Lennox and was from her debut solo album Diva (1992). It reached number five in the United Kingdom and number thirty-four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Lennox performed a piano-only version of the song for an NBC telethon to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina. On November 23, 2008 Lennox performed this song at the American Music Awards televised on the ABC television network.

The video features Lennox playing the role of a melancholic showgirl who is backstage and putting her make-up on. She later poses for a photo shoot.

In 2005 "Why" was covered by DJ Sammy with vocals by Britta Medeiros, a German singer. "Why" is the second single from the album The Rise. The music video features DJ Sammy in a room with a mixboard that he uses to create three holographic women that sing the song.
